This just in.
Details are sparse, but the Washington Capitals will be hosting an Alumni Game on March 4 – the day after the franchise plays in its third career outdoor game. The Capitals will play against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.
During an auction at Caps Casino Night, the team auctioned off an opportunity to play in the alumni game. Peter Bondra and Alan May said that the game would be “the morning after” the Stadium Series game. The winning bidder won the experience for $7,250.
No other details are currently known about the game including if the Caps will be playing Maple Leafs alumni or have a split squad game.
During the 2015 Winter Classic, the Capitals broke with tradition and did not host an alumni game leading up to their matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks.
1/5 update: According to Alan May, the Caps Alumni Game will be a red/white game featuring alumni lines and defense pairings mixed with people that bid to play in certain spots. The game will only feature former Caps players.
