For much of the last year, a dark cloud has been hanging over the United States as special counsel Robert Mueller investigates Donald Trump’s election campaign of collusion with Russia.
Now with several indictments handed down, Robert Mueller’s growing throng of fans are beginning to express themselves. Last week, Mueller was lionized by a Capitals fan with what is likely a first in his long career as a law enforcement officer: a customized Washington Capitals hockey jersey in his honor.

The jersey reads MUELLER TIME with the number 46 – the number of the next president after Donald Trump.
Reader Jeanne Blue had the jersey made last Saturday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. She explained her motivations to me in an email.
Like many other people I have spent the last few months in varying degrees of angst and anger over the devolution of our country’s norms and civility. Occasionally I commiserate with our usher in section 430. One night she said “stop talking about politics and enjoy the game.’ I rather flippantly replied, “OK, but my next jersey is going to be for Mueller.”
Last Saturday, after #FlynnFlippedFriday, I was at Kettler, the old Reebok jerseys were on sale, and I went for it.
Now at games I hope to focus on shots and penalties on the ice, and keep the events and indictments of the day in the back of my mind; or at least on my back. 🙂
Jersey fouls come in all different shapes, colors, sizes, and numbers. But for a team based in Washington DC, this sweater is totally apropos.
