Although he’s a big fan of his hometown Vegas Golden Knights, Bryce Harper is still on top of all of the latest Capitals happenings.
Two weeks after congratulating Braden Holtby on his 200th win, Harper is now recognizing Alex Ovechkin for his role in Alex Luey’s memorable night.
Best thing I’ve seen in a long time! On top of that @ovi8 with the hat trick for him was icing on the cake🎂 #puckcancer #Caps https://t.co/rDabsB8D4Y

Harper’s tweet was in reply to the video of Luey announcing the Capitals starting lineup.

According to Luey, Ovechkin promised the 13-year-old cancer survivor that he would score a goal and the Capitals would win before the game. Ovechkin scored three goals instead, taking over the NHL lead in goals. An emotional Luey was captured by Sportsnet cameras hugging his parents in the stands.
After the game, Ovechkin did interviews with Luey by his side. Philipp Grubauer would later name Luey the team’s player of the game. Capitals players gave Luey a standing ovation.
