After starting the season with three points in nine games, Lars Eller is literally aflame, tallying five points in his last three outings. Thursday against the Islanders, The Great Dane scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 3:21 left in the third period.
He was your first star of the night.

Eller’s GWG was scored on a brilliant set play. As John Carlson skated around the Caps net, he sent a pass to forward Tom Wilson who was hanging out at the red line. Wilson, using his big-man beef to protect the puck, dropped the biscuit for Eller streaking down the wing.
Lars proceeded to snap a nasty wrist shot past Jaroslav Halak’s glove to take the lead.
Here’s another look.
Eller’s goal, however, was one of only two shots on goal the Capitals had in the third period.
Eller also gave the Capitals a brief 2-1 lead late in the first period.

The Caps center scored after one-timing a pass from Chandler Stephenson five hole.
But that wasn’t all Eller did. Just to show how en fuego he was feeling, Eller had one of the sexiest carry-ins of the season, passing the puck between his legs, off his skate, and back onto his stick.
“Sometimes I think you have some games where most things are going right for you,” Eller said. “Tonight was one of those games for our line. I think we could have had a couple more. A lot of good things to build on.”
While the Capitals third-line pivot has struggled with penalties (10 minors in 12 games), he’s really found his game of late. And it’s happening at the perfect time. Beyond the Edmonton game where Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin dominated, the team’s top six has struggled to score at times.
“I think tonight was a good picture of what we are capable of doing in the bottom six and we need that going forward,” Eller said. “You can’t expect to score two or three every game, but production’s got to be there when the top six isn’t scoring because you can’t count on them every game.”
