The Caps played a good game in Detroit, but it was nearly for naught. A TJ Oshie goal in the game’s final minute got the Caps into overtime, and an overtime power play got them two badly needed standings points.
Check this out.
First, Alex Ovechkin drew a trip from Trevor Daley, driving across the slot. Then the Caps went to work, doing what they do better than darn near anyone. Nick Backstrom, your PPQB, pulled an elegant fade from the high spot to his home along the half wall. He drew in a defenseman as he went, so Nick Backstrom put his puck on board a pleasure cruise to Ovechkin Island.
Ovi sunk it.

The tally was Ovechkin’s 20th career overtime game-winning goal, which leapfrogged him past Jaromir Jagr for the all-time lead.

It’s Alex Ovechkin’s tenth goal of the season. It’s the middle of October, by the way.
Not bad for a Friday night.
