Wednesday night against the Penguins, Alex Ovechkin scored his eighth goal in four games. Taking a centering pass from rookie Christian Djoos, the Russian machine swept the puck past Matt Murray from just outside the crease.
Ovechkin, who became the first NHL player in 100 years to tally consecutive hat tricks to open the season, has had a goalscoring explosion at age 32. The Russian machine’s production been so impressive, several stat sites have tried to put his recent and career goalscoring in perspective.
Last week, Sportsnet mused if Ovi could score 50 in 50 this season. Meanwhile their stat site, pointed out that Ovi recently passed Jarome Igilna to become the leading goalscorer since the start of the 1990-2000 season.
