With their guests down 3-0 early in the first period, the Washington Capitals used a TV timeout to thank Karl Alzner for his time in DC.
Capital One Arena erupted in applause for the departed iron man.
The tribute video, set to Eric Church’s “Springsteen” shows highlights from Alzner’s earliest games (sporting number 47), rocking sunglasses at the Winter Classic, doing a bunch of charity work, helping out fans, some big plays and even bigger celebrations.

Alzner played 591 games for the Caps, 541 of them in a row, a franchise record. After nine seasons in DC, Alzner signed with the Candiens as a free agent this summer.
At the conclusion of the video, Caps PA announcers Wes Johnson invites the crowd to welcome Alzner back. The Capital One Arena fans do just that, thunderously.
