Over the summer, Alex Ovechkin’s longterm equipment deal with Bauer expired, making him a hockey gear free agent. During the preseason, the Russian machine tested various different types of equipment and it appears he’s still deciding on what’s next.
In the Capitals’ season opener, Ovechkin scored his 18th career hat trick wearing a CCM helmet, skates, and pants and playing with a CCM model stick. He also wore Bauer gloves.
On Friday, CCM gave Ovechkin a shoutout after noticing the superstar’s new look. The company published a photo of Ovechkin with a caption of “Welcome home.”
Does this mean Ovechkin is officially back in the fold with CCM? Neither Ovechkin’s agent David Abrutyn or a representative at CCM returned multiple messages seeking comment. That would suggest there is nothing official to announce and a deal has not been finalized.
If Ovechkin does decide to re-join CCM, he would join such NHL superstars like Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Brent Burns.

Ovechkin wore CCM gear from his rookie year until 2011.
