Washington Capitals backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer has a new goalie mask. Swedish airbrush artist Dave Gunnarsson shared a photo of Grubauer’s new design on his Instagram account, Saturday night.
Gunnarsson is very popular airbrush artist among NHL goalies and has previously done work for both Grubauer and Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby.
Gunnarson shared some of the inspiration and the art saga behind the mask’s conception.
Welcome to the 7th chapter of Philipp Grubauer’s mask art saga. Every new mask I create for every goalie is totally unique, made in only one version and for only one person, the goalie. Every new mask gets its own unique name, and the design is locked to only the owner of the mask, and it will never be replicated.
