From Friday, July 21 through that Sunday, Skate Frederick will be packed with old fat bald guys.
For three days, the 13th annual OFBG tournament will be held, playing rec league hockey and – most importantly – raising money to research and stop veteran suicide.
A silent auction will be held during the tournament. All of the proceeds will go towards the charity Platoon 22, and we’ve got the scoop on what will be available.
You can get updates and more information about the tournament from the event page on Facebook. In the meantime, here’s all the cool stuff that will be available for auction:
The 13th Annual Old, Fat, Bald Guys Ice Hockey Tournament will occur at Skate Frederick July 21-23, 2017. This is a tournament for adult ice hockey players of all skill levels who have a passion for hockey, friendship, camaraderie and family. Over $25,000 has been raised through a silent auction held at the tournament each year benefiting various charities and non-profit organizations in and around the Frederick, Maryland community.
Goal for 2017!
In 2017, we will collectively work to raise $10,000 for Platoon 22 between our silent auction, live auction, golf tournament, and donations from participants and spectators! Please help our efforts!
Over $25,000 has been raised through a silent auction held at the tournament each year benefiting various charities and non-profit organizations in and around the Frederick, Maryland community. The 13th Annual Old, Fat, Bald Guys Ice Hockey Tournament will again host a silent auction, and we are looking for your support. In December of 2012 the Old, Fat, Bald Guys Hockey family lost David Anthony “Tony” Johnson. Tony was a friend, teammate, son, brother and a United States Marine. Tony had a smile that would brighten a room; a personality that would change the day for the better; a zest for life that was unmatched within the persons he encountered. Tony struggled with PTSD following his return from combat in Iraq, and sadly took his own life. Tony’s sudden passing affected our entire hockey family. In an effort to honor the memory of David Anthony “Tony” Johnson, respect the wishes of his family and benefit the community, Old, Fat, Bald Guys Hockey will donate all proceeds from the silent auction at this year’s tournament to Platoon 22. This 501-c3 non-profit organization helps service veterans combat PTSD, and ultimately prevent these heroes from taking their own lives. The name Platoon 22 is symbolic of the estimated twenty-two U.S. service veterans who take their own lives every day due to PTSD. For more information please visit www.Platoon22.org.
We are seeking donations for the silent and live auction! If you are interested in donating an item for the silent auction or live auction please e-mail us at email@example.com. If you are interested in serving as a tournament sponsor for the weekend, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cookout and Pig Roast
Following the games on Saturday, July 22, 2017, please join us for the pig roast tailgate party in the Skate Frederick parking lot! David Anthony “Tony” Johnson will surely be missed at the pig roast, as it he was always he and OFBG player Dan Galati manning the cooker, sweating and working tirelessly to make sure there was food for everyone. Please bring a side dish, lawn chair, and appetite if you plan on attending! The winners from the silent auction will be announced, the live auction will be held, and a few special presentations will be made. All are welcome to join the party!
The 2017 Old, Fat, Bald Guys Ice Hockey Tournament kicks off on Friday, July 21 at Glade Valley Golf Course in Walkersville, Maryland! The golf tournament will be a scramble format featuring OFBG players, friends, and family members. Many prizes will be given out, and a great time will be had by all in attendance! All proceeds from the golf outing will also benefit Platoon 22! For more information on the golf tournament please e-mail us at email@example.com.
