Barry Trotz said tweaks to the lineup were possible after Game Two. Those tweaks did not materialize at Monday’s morning skate, but there may be another important change.
Karl Alzner, Washington’s iron man, is a game-time decision. Nate Schmidt fans, gird yourselves.
The Caps say Alzner is having a maintenance day. The Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan says he is a game-time decision for tonight. Instead, taking rushes with John Carlson is Nate Schmidt.
Alzner has not missed a game since he became a full-time NHLer in 2009-2010.
Nate Schmidt was among the most successful defensemen in the entire league this season. Many analysts agree he should play every game.
There are no changes among the forwards, so the lines look like this:
Ovechkin – Backstrom – Oshie
Johansson – Kuznetsov – Williams
Connolly – Eller – Burakovsky
Winnik – Beagle – Wilson
Schmidt – Carlson
Orlov – Niskanen
Orpik – Shattenkirk
Holtby
Though the Caps will not have last change tonight, matchups will be interesting to see. Perhaps Orlov-Niskanen vs Auston Matthews?
