The Capitals will give away red glow sticks for Game One and cowbells for Game Two

Fans in attendance for the Capitals’ first two playoff home games will be getting some free swag when they arrive at Verizon Center.

For Game One, the Capitals will be giving away red glow sticks, which were a smashing success last year (despite the obvious jokes about their appearance).

In a more controversial move, the Capitals will be giving away team-branded cowbells for Game Two. Take a look.

When someone says “cowbell” I immediately think of the Will Ferrell SNL skit and smile.

Except in practice, as a way to actually cheer on your team, an arena full of cowbells is like nails on a chalkboard. One of the most famous examples of their use is from the Music City Bowl several years ago. Mississippi State gave away the noisemaker to all their fans and this is how it sounded.

I don’t know about you, but this just gives me terrible, terrible anxiety.
