Evgeny Kuznetsov has always had a special relationship with his hockey teams’ mascots. For instance, when Kuzy played in the KHL, the Traktor Chelyabinsk mascot, Mikey The Polar Bear, attended his wedding.
Sunday after the Capitals’ 2-0 loss to the Florida Panthers, Kuznetsov participated in the team’s Jersey Off Their Backs ceremony. While he waited to give away his sweater, Kuznetsov messed with Slapshot. Things got physical.
According to Japers’ Rink’s Becca H., Kuznetsov snuck up behind the mascot and poked him in the back of the head.
Kuznetsov also pulled on Slapshot’s tail feather.

The mascot and the player then messed with each other before Kuznetsov struck with a haymaker.
In slow motion, you can really see how violent this punch was!
Eventually, Kuznetsov took care of business, giving his jersey away to a tiny Caps fan named Owen.
Meanwhile I think Slapshot had to be checked into the quiet room.
