Harambe lives on in Caps fan’s jersey foul

Hey, remember Harambe, the silverback gorilla who was shot and killed in May 2016 at the Cincinnati Zoo after a child fell into his enclosure? Remember how his memory became an internet meme that only recently, like its inspiration, died down?

Well, one Caps fan is helping Harambe live on. (The meme, not the gorilla. The gorilla is dead.)

On Monday, RMNB reader Martina tweeted a photo of a fan wandering Verizon Center while wearing a jersey with an “RIP Harambe” nameplate.

Also of note is the jersey number, 69, which is nice.

We’ve seen some bold jerseys lately, but this one is special. It’s exasperating, but this is obviously the work of a special fan. This person clearly has a profound dedication to the hottest internet memes of last summer, Caps legend Mel Angelstad, and irony.

But hey, people should feel comfortable in their jerseys, and they should feel proud of the name on the back. If you want your own jersey to commemorate a dead gorilla, go for it. You do you.
