Shat’s what we’re talking about: Caps win 4-1

Kevin Shattenkirk and the Washington Capitals visited the Big Apple to take on the Rangers on Tuesday night. It didn’t take long for Shattenkirk to be involved in a goal. For the other team.

The Rangers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when none of the Caps forwards covered up down low for Shattenkirk, who had pressured the puck carrier in the faceoff circle.

Marcus Johansson drove to the net and tapped home a rebound to tie the game at one a little under eight minutes into the second. The Caps continued to carry the play in the second and were rewarded in the final minutes when Brett Connolly stuffed home his 13th goal of the season.

Early in the third, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Johansson hooked up for a goal in which both showed off their magic hands to give the Caps a 3-1 lead. Nick Backstrom called bank on a late PP to seal this one.

Caps beat Rangers 4-1!

  • Evgeny Kuznetsov had a rough start to the game. He fell asleep in the defensive zone on the Rangers first goal and followed that up with a careless penalty later in the first period. He bounced back after that, having a hand in two goals.
  • Kevin Shattenkirk comes as advertised. He can skate well, his passes are on the tape, and he fires the puck on net a lot.
  • Who do you guys think Bray Wyatt will end up facing at Wrestlemania? SORRY, wrong Tuesday night TV.
  • How about Shattenkirk’s first pass to Ovi in the Ovi spot on the PP? Shades of Mike Green? Not bad. And by not bad I mean it was great.
  • I know a lot of people doubted The Miz for a long time but…SORRY.
  • The Caps will never lose another video review again.
  • Oh hey, check out Elyse serving up terrible takes on Twitter

  • A fun drinking game to play is to drink every time Karl Alzner is part of a failed or uncontrolled zone exit.
  • Sneezing on Mats Zuccarello: not okay. Mats Zuccarello barreling over Braden Holtby: totally cool.
  • A slow start for the good guys but they bounced back and earned these two points. The Caps are now 1-0 in The Era of Shat.
