We both fired Bruce Boudreau bowl: Caps beat Ducks 6-4

The Capitals started Saturday’s game in typical relentless offensive fashion, however they wouldn’t end it that way. A game that was once headed to blowout territory eventually became tied in the third period. But, it’s all coming up Caps lately. They got another W.

It all started with an early power play goal from Trendy Jeans Oshie, his 400th career NHL point, assisted by Marcus Johansson and Nicklas Backstrom, his 700th career NHL point. Backstrom scored a goal of his own soon after and Tom Wilson made it 3-0 after a great pass from Daniel Winnik.

In the second, Jakob Silfverberg upset any Braden Holtby shutout hopes, beating Holtby with a sharp angle wrister that went upstairs. Daniel Winnik restored the 3 goal lead with his second shorthanded marker on the year, before Hampus Lindholm would once again make it a 2 goal game, confirmed after review.

Anaheim’s two Ryan’s made the game interesting again. Goals from Kesler and Getzlaf tied the game at 4. Zach Sanford’s first NHL game was a very big one to make it 5-4 late. Marcus Johansson would add an empty netter.

Caps beat Ducks 6-4!

  • In typical Nicklas Backstrom fashion, the Swedish center shared his 700th career point milestone with TJ Oshie, as Oshie tallied his 400th career point on the same goal.
  • The Capitals had another excellent first period. They are outscoring their opponents 63-25 in the first frame this season and are now 26-3-3 when leading after the first.
  • Let’s talk more about Nicky. He has a point in seven straight games, 15 multi point games, and has now passed Dale Hunter and Michael Pivonka for a tie in 9th place on the Caps all-time goal list with Dennis Maruk. His three points tonight, for now, tie him for first in points in the entire NHL.
  • We had another review of a goal. A challenge initiated by Barry Trotz to see whether or not the Ducks 2nd goal was offside or not. The linesmen on their four-inch tablet decided it was inconclusive. I cant even play Angry Birds on a four-inch tablet. Get them something better, NHL.
  • The new kid in town, Zach Sanford, scored his first NHL goal and it was a huge one, putting the Caps up 5-4 very late in the third period. Congratulations and well done, Sanny.
  • After a recent Andre Burakovsky broken hand, when Dmitry Orlov went to the locker room in the second period after taking a hit against the boards, things got a little scary. Luckily top pairing defenseman Orlov, returned for the third.
  • The Mites on Ice goalies that they showed on CSN during the second intermission already look like better netminders than anyone that the Winnipeg Jets have thrown in cage this season.
  • Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler are both incredibly annoying hockey players.
  • The Caps have scored five-plus goals in 11 straight home games, tying an NHL record. Just wow.
