Whoever decided the lineup for the Hardest Shot Competition did not consult Alex Ovechkin. We know this because of the Russian machine’s reaction when he found out he was matched up against defending champion and owner of the second hardest shot of all-time, Shea Weber.
Pretty sure Ovechkin just found out who he's going up against in the hardest shot competition. pic.twitter.com/2gTQDfs4bS

Watch as Ovechkin gasps as he looks up at the jumbotron. “What?” Ovechkin said as he turned and looked towards Weber.
During the actual competition, Ovechkin did not do so well. During his first shot, he missed the net entirely.
His second shot was 97.8 mph.
Shea Weber ended up winning his third Hardest Shot trophy after posting a 102.8 mph shot. Patrick Laine, who idolizes Ovechkin, finished second with a 101.7 mph shot.
