The Washington Capitals won their eighth-straight game Friday night. Not only did the 6-0 victory vault Braden Holtby to the top of the shutouts leaderboard, it also pushed the Caps to first place in the Metropolitan Divsion and the entire NHL.
But because Washington plays in the Metro (where losses are about as frequent as a plague of locusts), the Caps’ stay in first place lasted approximately 90 minutes.

At 11:05, the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are still riding high because of their 16-game winning streak earlier in the season, defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 to reclaim the NHL’s standings point lead.
