Verizon Center went positively bananas when Alex Ovechkin recorded his 1,000th career point, but there were 20 individuals who did not join in the fun: the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Why, you might ask, did the Penguins not applaud, cheer, or even stick-tap their mortal foe in the moment of his triumph? The answer… … …may surprise you.
Except it won’t. They’re the other team. But on top of that, Alex Ovechkin has been making merry sport of beating up on the Penguins over his career.
The teams that have given Ovechkin most of his points won’t surprise you. They’re the dregs of the old Southeast Division — teams like the Thrashers/Jets, the Hurricanes, both Florida teams.
But right below those genuinely horrible clubs are the Pittsburgh Penguins, who after Wednesday have suffered 49 points at the hands of Alex Ovechkin.
It’s not because they’re a bad club. It’s just because Ovi is angry at them.
So don’t get mad the Penguins for being butthurt at Ovi’s milestone. They can’t help it.
P.S. – We still hate you Penguins Twitter.
Congratulations on 1,000 career NHL points, @ovi8. What an achievement! Respect. pic.twitter.com/e2S8ZdGmj1
