During a scary moment, Islanders center Casey Cizikas left the Caps-Isles game early in the first period.
While forechecking along the boards with Nicklas Backstrom, Cizikas fell over, but managed to keep possession of the puck while sliding on his belly. After sliding the biscuit away to the center of the ice, Cizikas was stepped on by Anders Lee as three players converged on the puck.
It’s hard to tell what exactly happened in the initial replay.
But the opposite angle tells the story. Lee puts his full weight on Cizikas’s left forearm.
Officials eventually blew the whistle and Cizikas, along with the New York Islanders trainer, sprinted to the locker room.
The Isles forward pressed a towel firmly against his wrist.
Remarkably, Cizikas returned to game with about seven minutes left in the stanza, taking a shift during an Isles penalty kill.
Great news: Cizikas has been repaired and is back on Isles' bench. #CapsIsles
