Caps vs Bruins Pregame: Hello TJ

It’s Wednesday and the Boston Bruins are coming to town. You may remember the Bruins from such classics as game seven of the 2012 Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The Bruins are led into town by goal-scoring wizard David Pastrnak, who has 15 goals through 21 games this season.

For the Caps, despite a win on Monday against Buffalo, they are still looking to work out a lot of kinks in their game. There’s no time like the present for the Caps to get their game unkinked. Maybe tonight is the night that Evgeny Kuznetsov starts dazzling again, Alex Ovechkin stops taking 73 penalties per game, or someone from the blue line decides to score a goal.

Good news: TJ Oshie is back!

Heads up: 8:00 pm game tonight and NBCSN has your coverage.

Team Record SA% PDO Power Play Penalty Kill
    Boston Bruins 15-10-1  54.5%  99.1 13.8% 86.4%
    Washington Capitals 14-7-3  53.5%  101.7 15.2% 83.1%

    Projected Lines

New lines! Oshie is back, Backstrom and Ovi are split up again, and there’s been a shakeup of the D pairs. Per Isabelle:

    Johansson – Backstrom – Oshie
    Ovechkin – Kuznetsov – Williams
    Burakovsky – Eller – Vrana
    Winnik – Beagle – Wilson

    Orlov – Niskanen
    Alzner – Carlson
    Orpik – Schmidt

    the-simpsons

FXX just finished airing all 600 episodes of The Simpsons. I’m not a huge TV show person, but I really appreciate The Simpsons and am regularly entertained when I tune in.

Did you tune in for any of the marathon? What’s your favorite episode?

    Storylines

    • The Caps PP lives and dies with Alex Ovechkin.
    • Worried about the Caps? Allow Dan Steinberg to offer some perspective.
    • From September, here’s why I like the Orlov-Niskanen pairing.
    • Per usual, here’s Mike Vogel with quotes and info worth your time.
    • Andre Burakovsk’y production may have dipped, but his confidence hasn’t.
    • Here’s your chance to have Karl Alzner and Daniel Winnik on your Christmas card.
    • Barry Trotz is not happy with Alex Ovechkin’s penalties and he’s threatened to take away power play time from his captain (LOL).
    • Alex Ovechkin is still being so selfish, making children smile and all that.
    • Nick Backstrom answered some questions on Facebook.

    In Defense of Winter

In a recent pregame, someone who shall remain nameless (Elyse), took it upon herself to besmirch the good name of winter. This aggression will not stand, man. I don’t necessarily have a favorite season, but there’s so much I love about winter. Here’s a few of the things about winter that are great:

    • Snow: Snow is fun, peaceful, and quiet. Snow haters, don’t be so grumpy that it disrupts the inane busyness of everyday life. That sounds more like a you problem than a snow problem. Snow was here long before humans placed productivity above leisure and maybe it’ll be here long after.
    • Holidays: Not all of them take place in official winter, but there’s plenty of great holidays to celebrate from mid-fall through the end of the year. I enjoy eating lots of food and getting together with friends and family, so I welcome the holiday season.
    • Fleece slippers: We can’t wear moccassins all year.
