Saturday night, the Capitals lost 5-1 to the fourth worst team in hockey. They were listless, sloppy, and undisciplined. The game, their second in two nights, was arguably their worst effort of the season. And for one Caps fan, enough was enough.
He wrote the following bold tweet. CSN put this up during their coverage of the game.
The fan writes: “Been saying we should look to trade OV. Sorry we need fresh blood.”

Uh, no. Not even a little.
I don’t necessarily have a problem if someone, after seeing the Capitals lose in the second round last year, thought the team needed to change course more aggressively than they did. What I have a problem with is coming to this conclusion during a mid-November game when the team was obviously gassed.
As a reminder, the Caps are victors of nine of their first 14 games and the reigning President’s Trophy winners. Ovechkin may end up being the greatest (adjusted) goal scorer of all time.
There are no grand conclusions to take away from tonight’s game other than it happened, it sucked, and let’s not do that again.
