On Saturday, the Washington Capitals hosted Hockey Fights Cancer Night at Verizon Center. There were so many great moments that evening that it’s hard to cover them all. But here’s another one.
Nicklas Backstrom’s Wish Kid for the evening was five-year-old cancer survivor Maeve, who is currently in remission. Before the game, Maeve and her newfound friend Addy, stood by the glass during warmups. It was at that moment Maeve first met hunky forward Tom Wilson.
Her reaction is priceless.
That, my friends, is pure joy. The adorable photos were taken by Barbara Parker, who most of you know as @luvdcaps on Twitter.
Sunday afternoon, Wilson also posted the photo on his Instagram account.
Such a special night with all the amazing kids! #HockeyFightsCancer

But Maeve’s fun didn’t stop there. Afterwards, she joined several other Wish Kids on the ice for the national anthem, where she held hands with Braden Holtby.
Later, during the second period, CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Jill Sorenson interviewed Maeve and Addy.
“Maeve, Nicklas Backstrom is fighting for you. What was it like meeting him?” Sorenson asked.
“He’s nice,” Maeve responded.
She clearly knew that from experience. Friday when the Wish Kids met their Caps partners, Maeve hung out with Nicky and took this picture with him.

On Sunday, Backstrom, in a rare tweet, called Maeve his “bestie” and her new “biggest fan.”
I'm your biggest fan, nice to hang out with my bestie after the game! @Super_Maeve https://t.co/0TdwEgwIVT
