After losing to the Penguins 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday, the Capitals will host the New York Islanders on Saturday night in the team’s home opener. Before the game the Caps are going to drive to Verizon Center in their various AMG Mercedes, get out, walk around a little bit, get in a Lexus, and be driven around the block and delivered back to Verizon Center. It’s like the Holton-Arms parking lot but with less entitlement.
The Isles made some additions in the offseason, signing Andrew Locklan Ladd and noted skate-thrower Jason Chimera. I was going to include some things Chimera said recently here, but he talks too fast to be intelligible. New York lost its opening night matchup to the Rangers 5-3.
Here’s a giant sample size.
Team | Record | Possession | PDO | Power Play | Penalty Kill |
New York Islanders | 0-1-0 | 49.6% | 99.5 | 0% (T-16th) | 80% (18th) |
Washington Capitals | 0-0-1 | 56.1% | 102.8 | 0% (T-16th) | 50% (22nd) |
Washington’s lines and pairs played well together on Thursday. They’ll stay the same.

Chimera was asked if he has any secret info on Caps: "Oh yeah. I know where to score on Holtby. It's gonna be easy."
