For those of you who buy the Caps’ Dog Calendar year after year, we have some great news. The Caps just announced the date when they will be available.
On Friday, November 18 during the Caps/Red Wings game, the organization will put up a limited number of calendars up for sale at the MSE Foundation table located at Section 104 on the main concourse of the Verizon Center.
The Capitals also released a few photos already taken for the calendar.
First, check out Burakovsky and Schmidt chillin’ on the Einstein Statue with puppies.
So dashing (or dachshun-ing).
Next up, Carlson with a pair of happy pups.
Finally, Wilson with puppies that make you wonder who the real model in the photo is.
The remainder of the photos will be taken on Monday, October 10th at several tourist attractions in Washington DC. So, keep your eyes peeled for possible run-ins with puppies and players. Lars Eller and Stanislav Galiev will pose with their own dogs while Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, Marcus Johansson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Alex Ovechkin will cheese with shelter dogs from Homeward Trails.
Washington Capitals players will participate in the 2017 Capitals Canine Calendar photo shoot to benefit Homeward Trails Animal Rescue at several locations throughout Washington, D.C. on Monday, Oct. 10.
Players being photographed include Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, Marcus Johansson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Alexander Ovechkin with dogs available for adoption through Homeward Trails and Stanislav Galiev and Lars Eller with their dogs.
Additional players featured in the calendar include Karl Alzner, Andre Burakovsky, John Carlson, Taylor Chorney, Brett Connolly, Matt Niskanen, TJ Oshie, Nate Schmidt, Tom Wilson, and Daniel Winnik.
A limited number of 2017 Caps Canine Calendars will be available for $20 beginning Friday, Nov. 18, when the Capitals host the Detroit Red Wings at the MSE Foundation table located at section 104 on the main concourse. The Capitals Better Halves will help sell the calendar on Nov. 18. In addition the calendar will be available for purchase at the team stores at Verizon Center and Kettler Capitals Iceplex and WashingtonCaps.com.
One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. Homeward Trails is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic region for dogs and cats from high-kill shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. They seek to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals through the rescue and placement of homeless animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way. Homeward Trails not only facilitates adoptions from local shelters, but also supports a large network of foster care providers who take homeless dogs and cats into their homes, care for them, rehabilitate them when needed, and prepare them for their permanent adoptive homes. For more information on Homeward Trails, visit http://www.homewardtrails.org/.
The Capitals have raised nearly $114,500 for Homeward Trails through sales of the Canine Calendar since 2014.
