‘Is it Inktober Yet?’: A hockey drawing for every day in October

October is here, and it’s the most wonderful time of year: The leaves are changing, the pumpkin is spiced, and best of all: hockey is back! And for artists worldwide, October brings about another thing: Inktober.

The Inktober Initiative was started in 2009 by illustrator Jake Parker, “as a challenge to improve my inking skills and develop positive drawing habits.” Since then, the project has grown exponentially. On Instagram alone, there are currently almost 1.4 million photos using the Inktober hashtag. According to Parker’s website, the rules are very simple:

1) Make a drawing in ink.

2) Post it online

3) Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2016

4) Repeat

Some artists choose to set up a theme for their sketchbooks, some just draw whatever they want, with no theme at all. Last year was my first foray into the Inktober challenge. I chose to go the route of “no real theme,” and just sketched something quickly every day, mostly characters from my favorite movies, anime, video games, etc. Though three Capitals made it into my sketchbook: Alex Ovechkin, TJ Oshie, and Evgeny Kuznetsov. It was a lot of fun!

This year, I decided to take things in a different direction. October has 31 days, and there are 30 NHL teams. So every day starting October 1st I’ll be drawing a player from each NHL team, starting with Anaheim and working my way down to Winnipeg. The finished drawings will be posted daily on my Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr, and here on RMNB! We’ll be continuously updating this post daily.

Feel free to join in the fun and share your hockey-themed Inktober drawings with us, or throw a suggestion for a player my way. Who knows, I may end up choosing your suggestion as my Inktober drawing for that team!

Happy inking, everyone!
