The Swedes have narrowed the gap on Team North America. Down two goals late in the first period, the Swedes got a power play opportunity and your favorite blonde NHL center Nicklas Backstrom one-timed a rebound past John Gibson. Former Caps draft pick Filip Forsberg got the assist.

The play starts with Erik Karlsson at the point dishing the puck to Forsberg for a one-time blast near Alex Ovechkin’s office. John Gibson makes the initial save, but kicks the puck almost to the blue line. The puck goes straight out to Backstrom who slaps home an easy goal past Gibson.

Backstrom also assisted on Sweden’s first goal of the game scored by Forsberg.
