Ever since RMNB launched its new and improved website, long-time readers have had one burning question: What happened to the tooth?
The tooth, as eagle-eyed readers will recall, used to live in the top right corner of the RMNB home page, a subtle homage to the missing front tooth of Capitals captain and the Russian machine that never breaks, Alex Ovechkin.
But the redesign evicted the tooth, setting it adrift in the vast nothingness of the hockleyess summer.
Until now.

The tooth has found new life as the GR8 Missing Tooth Trophy, the newest, most sought-after trophy in all of sport. It will be hoisted in glory for the first time by the two winners of the inaugural RMNB Floor Hockey Tournament, taking place this Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Rockville Sportsplex.
Standing more than 2 feet tall and weighing in at, eh, maybe 5 pounds, the GR8 Missing Tooth Trophy is truly magnificent specimen befitting the honor that will come with winning the inaugural RMNB Floor Hockey Tournament. And just like the Stanley Cup, you can’t keep it, but can try to drink things out of it.

Only 10 spots remain (preferably four women) in the co-ed tournament happening this Saturday for a chance to hoist the tooth. Reserve yours by selecting the $40 perk on the Russian Machine Never Brakes fundraiser (which is a community effort to help NASCAR driver and Caps fan Ryan Ellis get into the Drive Sober 200 Xfinity Series race at Dover International Speedway Oct. 1).
A few more news and notes about the the hockey tournament:
- Wednesday morning, Ian Oland will be announcing a free gift that everyone will receive for participating in the tournament. It’s from a very kind, very large national sponsor.
- At least one game from each of the eight teams will be taped for broadcast on local TV. Basically all of you are going to be TV stars.
- Rachel Cohen will have a booth set up at the event, selling some exclusive, limited-edition RMNB merch on the cheap.
- The Recreational Division will be playing from 3:15pm – 6:30pm. The very competitive Upper Division will take the field at 6:45pm and play until 10pm.
- Everyone who plays on Team RMNB gets to wear red, so basically you should ask to be on their team. RMNB writers Ian Oland, Chris Gordon, and Chris Cerullo will be playing with a team consisting of other hockey bloggers and readers.
- Reminder: you need bring your own shin pads and a hockey stick. We also highly recommend a hockey helmet and hockey gloves.
- The fundraiser ends Thursday at midnight. Please get your payments in ASAP so it gives us more time to fill holes in the tourney. If you have any questions, email us.
