Tuesday morning, the Washington Capitals announced that the team’s training camp will begin Friday, September 23. They also sent out a schedule of events in September up until then, which includes the Caps rookie tournament in Florida.

Take a gander below the jump.

The Washington Capitals will officially open their 2016-17 NHL training camp on Friday, Sept. 23, at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.

All Capitals players, coaches and management will be available to the media. There are three practice sessions scheduled that day (Group White at 9:30 a.m., Group Red at 11 a.m. and Group Blue at 12:30 p.m.). Players will be available to the media at the conclusion of their on- and off-ice sessions. The complete training camp schedule and roster will be announced at a later date. Similar to previous years, Kettler Capitals Iceplex will be closed to the media on Thursday, Sept. 22 – the day Capitals veterans conduct physicals and off-ice testing.

Prior to the start of NHL training camp, the Capitals will compete in the four-team rookie tournament, to be held at Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs, Fla., from Sept. 17-20. The rookie tournament will also feature top prospects from the Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, who will host the event. Capitals’ prospects will face each of the three other participating teams once during the round-robin tournament. All Capitals games will be broadcast live and will be available on Monumental Network and WashingtonCaps.com. In addition, all games can be heard on the 24-hour radio channel, Caps Radio 24/7, devoted specially to the Capitals and NHL. The Capitals’ tournament roster and further media information will be released at a later date.
