Karl Alzner Leaves Game After Getting Slashed by Sidney Crosby

karl-alzner-injury

Karl Alzner, one of the Capitals’ most reliable defensemen, just left Game Six with an injury. Some time before the 9:20 mark of the first period, Sidney Crosby slashed Alzner. The play looked harmless, but when Alzner returned to the bench, he cursed and left for the locker room.

Here’s a GIF of Crosby’s slash.

Alzner has not taken a shift since. Throughout the postseason, Alzner has missed several days of practice, which the Caps have routinely called “maintenance days.’

We don’t know if Alzner’s missed shifts are related, but it could not come at a worse time for the Capitals.

9:07 Update: Alzner is back for the second period – though he does not appear to be skating at full strength.
