Round 1, Game 2 Live Blog: Caps vs Flyers

Photo: Patrick Smith

Game Two is upon us. The Caps pulled out a very solid 2-0 victory over the Flyers in Game One, which calmed some nerves for the D.C. area, but I assume those same nerves are back in full force before puck drop tonight. Going up 2 games in the series would be a great start to the playoffs and would put all the pressure on Philadelphia, so another Caps victory would be very sweet.

Tonight we’ll see if there is any retaliation for the rough stuff in Game One and whether or not Brayden Schenn has learned that he’s not going up for a basketball rebound when he’s hitting. Here’s hoping that the Caps stay out of the stupidity and just beat up on Philadelphia by putting multiple pucks behind Steve Mason.

Another playoff liveblog for you below.

Pre-Game

Just some pre-game hoops action for Osh and Willy Sr.

Tonight’s lines:

“Whatever works” – @washcaps

First Period

John Carlson puts the Caps up 1-0 on the PP.

Story of the first period. His name is Braden Holtby and we are not deserving.

CFTC: That was not good. That cant keep happening. We need to pick up our goalie. Somehow we’re still up 1. Let’s make it more than that in the 2nd.

Second Period

Uhhh…. this went in…

Flyers make it 2-1 as Brooks Orpik is “dangled by a ghost” – Dimitri Filipovic

“He summoned the power of Matchbox 20” – Peter Hassett

From his office, signed, sealed and delivered. 3-1 Caps.

CFTC: We still aren’t playing well, but our special teams and goaltender are elite. Those two things can win you games even when you’re playing as sloppily as we are at evens. Our neutral zone play has been horrid. Our D have been sluggish and indecisive. Our goalie has been godlike. The second line is creating and the first line looked like it was getting into the game at the end there. Seal. The. Deal. 3-1 Caps after 2.

Third Period

Holtby aint afraid of no ghosts.

Willy likes the rough stuff.

RIP.

HE CALLED GAME.

CFTC: That’s not how we want to play the whole series, unless the same scoreboard comes with it. Braden Holtby was immense. 2 down, 14 to go. We’re going to Philly.

Final score: 4-1 Caps.
