Kicking off a series of Global Heritage Nights at Verizon Center, Monday night was German Heritage Night, honoring Caps goalie Philipp Grubauer and the country of his birth.

The next Heritage Night will be held on March 28. To prepare for Swedish Heritage Night, on Tuesday Nick Backstrom visited the Swedish Embassy. He drank coffee and got presents and was generally adorable in a totally tre kronor way.

Backstrom spoke with the Swedish ambassador to the United States, Björn Lyrvall.

It is unknown at press time if IKEA’s bjorn toys are named after the Ambassador.

After hellos, Backstrom and the Ambassador were joined by Caps Senior Writer Mike Vogel for a fika. A fika is a traditional Swedish coffee break with pastries or sandwiches, a bit like afternoon tea, except blonder.

Lyrvall, Vogel, and Backstrom combine for 626 career NHL points. They have one All-Star Game appearance among them.

Afterwards, Backstrom was given a adorable present, a shirt that reads “HUG A SWEDE.”

Trust me, Sweden, I’m pretty sure every Caps fan wants to hug that Swede. Total cinnamon roll.

Swedish Heritage Night is March 28 vs. Columbus. Here’s hoping Nicky wears his sick new threads under his jersey.
