Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov admitted he was disappointed about his performance during the Breakaway Challenge, Saturday. He also confirmed to the media that his second breakaway attempt was indeed an homage to Alex Ovechkin.
“Like a copy but not a good copy,” Kuznetsov said.
Were you trying to honor Ovechkin?
Evgeny Kuznetsov: Wanna do some more. He say ‘You can do something.’ But it’s okay, you know. No chance I’m going win against Burns. It’s like these guys amazing. Just trying to make something. I still have fun.
So the cowboy hat, sunglasses. Was that trying to do what Ovechkin did?
Evgeny Kuznetsov: Like a copy, but not a good copy. But it’s okay, you know. It’s good I try something. Not bad.
Did you tell him you were going to do that?
Evgeny Kuznetsov: Yeah, yeah, I texted. We have group chat. He okay with that because I buy some hat and jersey for him. So he’s okay about that.
You told Nick to pour the Coke in your mouth?
Evgeny Kuznetsov: A litte bit, yeah. That’s Sergey [Kocharov’s] idea.
Kuznetsov also showed off his fancy sunglasses to the media, which had guitars on the frames.
