The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins were supposed to renew their rivalry at 12:30 PM on national television today. Instead, a blizzard dropped two feet of snow on the nation’s capital, paralyzing the area and closing DC’s airports and roads.
So without hockey, what are we to do? I figure: watch really good, old hockey instead! And the obvious thing to watch is the Snovechkin game in its entirety. The similarities from then and now are uncanny.

On February 7, 2010, the Caps and Pens played a Sunday matinee game, after a weekend snowstorm buried Washington under two feet of snow. I wasn’t kidding about the uncanny part.
As NHL.com said in the recap, the game featured great goals, physical play, unexpected twists, and improbable turns. And oh yeah, a Mike Knuble fight, Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik calling Alex Semin “a baby,” and this Alex Ovechkin hat trick.
Ovechkin’s Hat Trick
This is one of the greatest Capitals games of all-time in my opinion and the type of performance you name storms after. I hope you enjoy!
