When St. Louis Blues fan Meg R. attended the Capitals’ recent game against her hometown Calgary Flames, she hoped to meet up with her favorite former Blues player, TJ Oshie. She got a lot more than that, including some fandom advice from Oshie himself.
Meg had met Oshie before at practices. She told RMNB Oshie “would always stop and took his time to get a picture with me and get stuff signed.” So at Oshie’s first game in Calgary since being traded to Washington, she passed one of those pictures to a team trainer in the hopes Oshie would autograph it for her.
He did.
When the trainer returned the photo, Meg noticed Oshie had also added a special inscription: “We need to get you a Caps jersey!!”
For those counting at home, that’s two exclamation points.
This isn’t the first time Oshie has encouraged a Blues fan to root for his new team. After five-year-old Libby Lu had a viral meltdown about the Oshie/Brouwer deal, TJ surprised her on SportsCenter. Eleven days later, Oshie and the Capitals delivered her a Capitals care package that included a tiny, new #77 Caps jersey.
For a guy who spent his entire career in another organization, Oshie has acclimated to the team quickly.
But the question remains: will Meg switch allegiances to remain loyal to Oshie? Well, if her attire at the game is any indication, the answer is a resounding yes.
