Alex Ovechkin Reunites With Ann, John Carlson Debuts Man Bun, and Other Photos From the Caps Red Carpet

Like some other NHL teams, the Washington Capitals had their very own red carpet event today ahead of their home opener against the New Jersey Devils. I’m not sure I love the idea of treating hockey players like movie stars, as the sport’s most marketable quality is just how down-to-earth and approachable these athletes are, but, hey, it’s a limited-time deal. So I can deal.

The first person to make his way down the carpet this afternoon was The Ice Cheetah himself, Jason Chimera. After him came a lot of new suits and a lot of new looks. For instance, John Carlson debuted a man bun, as captured by our own Chris Gordon. The sweetest moment of the ceremony was when Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was walked down the carpet by perfect human being Ann Schaab and RMNB reader Priscilla.

But, Ian, who was the best and worst dressed? Who had the most ridiculous hair? I’m glad you asked.

Tom Wilson. He might only have seven career goals, but he’s adored for his style. A barbarian on the ice, Wilson is a gentleman off of it. This navy blue ensamble is fantastic. I love, love, love the tie.

Braden Holtby. The Holtbeast could retire tomorrow and be a GQ model. This get-up has both creativity and an eye for detail. What a pocket square.

Sean Collins. In a shocking twist, my best dressed Caps player is someone we all know almost nothing about. Check out this grey checkered suit coat, white dress shirt, and skinny striped grey, white, and red tie. Sean, if the whole hockey thing doesn’t work out, I will pay you to dress me if I ever run for president.

Alex Ovechkin. There’s no need to have a list here. Ovi owns this distinction just about as much as he owns the Rocket Richard Trophy every year. I think he has only one suit. This bright blue number does him no favors. But he’s really good at hockey and brought Ann, so he gets a free pass from me.

Weirdest Hairdos

Phillipp Grubauer. The Caps new back-up goaltender looked like the newest Bond villain with this bold undercut.

John Carlson. Or should we call him Samurai John? Several readers volunteered to bring scissors and cut this off for him. I think they are gracious for doing so.
