If you’re not planning to go to the 12:30 PM Caps game, watching it on TV, or going to the DC Hockey Analytics Conference (10 – 5), then I’ve got a fun event for you.
The Frederick Keys will be hosting Hockey Day at Nymeo Field and former Caps’ 60- (and 50-) goal scorer Dennis Maruk will be in attendance signing autographs. First pitch is at 2 PM. I will be there for as long as I can get away with before I’m forced to drive home and GIF an Alex Ovechkin goal.
More from our friends at the Keys:
FREDERICK, Md. –The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that former Washington Capitals center, Dennis Maruk, will make an appearance at the Keys “Hockey Day” this Saturday, April 11. Gates open at 1 p.m. and first pitch is at 2 o’clock, when the Keys entertain the Winston-Salem Dash. Maruk will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. There will also be a pre-game magnet schedule giveaway sponsored by Precision Heating and Cooling.
Maruk, 59, played for the Capitals from 1978-1983. One of the NHL’s top scorers during his time in the nation’s capital, the Canadian fared best during the 1980-81 season. In 81 games he scored 60 goals and racked up 76 assists for a total of 136 points. His assist and point totals from that year remain Capitals’ records for a single season, while he became the first Caps player to score 100 points in a season. During the 1982-83 campaign, he played a pivotal role in leading Washington to its first playoff appearance.
Hockey Day highlights an exciting first weekend of promotions at Nymeo Field. Friday features the first post-game fireworks show of the season following the Keys 7:00 p.m. game, presented by Magic Mountain Chimney Sweeps. On Sunday, there will be a Junior Keys Club Kickoff Picnic at 1p.m., while it is the first Keys for Reading Weekend of the year. Students from Frederick, Carroll, Loudon and Clark counties are invited to attend, and can exchange their signed bookmark for a ticket to that days’ game.
To pick up your tickets for Hockey Day, fans can call the Keys Box Office at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
