That was a dumb period. (Photo credit: Justin Tang)
On this festive weekend, the Caps looked to clinch a playoff berth with a regulation win over the Senators. Instead, they dug themselves a huge hole early. Somehow, they came back. Then they blew it again. Oh well. Put down your matzo and wine, it’s no time for a yeast-less party.
This is what the Capitals did in the first period.
In the second, Marcus Johansson put the Capitals on the board with wrist shot past Andrew Hammond, whose name starts with “ham” so for some reason people call him the Hamburglar.
In the third, Mike Green took his RMNB-provided Stealth CNT and put the Caps within one, his third goal in five games.
Then, Troy Brouwer came streaking into the zone to make the impossible a reality. In OT, however, the Caps reverted to first period form as Kyle Turis scored on a breakaway after Green messed up. Sens beat Caps 4-3 (OT).
Caps get another shot at the postseason tomorrow at 5. Peter’s back with you.
