Alex Ovechkin is now one goal away from 50. Late on a second-period power play, Ovechkin received a beautiful cross-ice saucer pass from Nicklas Backstrom, just outside the left circle.
Ovechkin wound up and fired into Joel Ward‘s screen. The puck appears to deflect off Dan Boyle‘s skate, through Cam Talbot‘s five-hole, and into the net.
You can watch all of Ovi’s 2014-15 goals here.
That was Ovechkin’s 471st goal in his career. Today is Ovi’s 14th multi-goal game this season and the 99th of this career. I want one more.
Ovechkin has no hat tricks this season. One more goal would be his first hat trick, and it would make this his 6th 50-goal season, plus he’d tie Peter Bondra for the most career goals in franchise history, and– oh yeah– he’d give the Caps the lead in a big divisional game.
Keep going, Ovi.
