Backstrom on his back, celebrating.
The Capitals had a tenuous one-goal lead over the Devils until the top line, featuring one Jay Beagle, helped put New Jersey in a two-goal hole.
A snazzy play in an otherwise subdued game.
First, please note Adam Henrique (who is not on the bench as the announcer says) clobbering Alex Ovechkin blindside at the blue line.
John Carlson intercepted a bad breakout pass from the Devils and turned Beagle loose in the offensive zone. Beagle, with awareness aplenty, faked a shot and dropped the puck to Nick Backstrom, who had the patience of a saint before beating Schneider with a wrister.
Backstom fell to the boards as his teammates surrounded him to celebrate.
Here are some other helpful Beagles, just because this joke is always funny to me and because Ian isn’t around to stop me.
The internet is fun. Caps lead Devils 2-0 going into the third.
