Weird Things Caps Fans Threw on the Ice for Nicklas Backstrom’s Hat Trick

Nicklas Backstrom scored a natural hat trick on Saturday night, which meant Caps fans got a chance to throw their favorite hats onto the ice.

But not everything they threw were hats.

We’ve got a Santa Hat.

A scarf, which isn’t really aerodynamic enough to throw in my opinion.

A half-eaten soft pretzel.

A Pepsi bottle – with, yes- soda still in it.

None of that was a proper salute to Nicky’s accomplishment, fans. And if you’re going to throw food, at least have chuck a meatball. I’m guessing– and tell me if I’m wrong– that alcohol may have been a factor. It was the third period on a Saturday night after all.
