Nicklas Backstrom scored a natural hat trick on Saturday night, which meant Caps fans got a chance to throw their favorite hats onto the ice.
But not everything they threw were hats.
We’ve got a Santa Hat.
A scarf, which isn’t really aerodynamic enough to throw in my opinion.
A half-eaten soft pretzel.
A Pepsi bottle – with, yes- soda still in it.
UPDATE, 12:10 PM: Breaking news straight from twitter. This is a bombshell.
@russianmachine so the Pepsi bottle was actually a bottle of dip spit, I was the one who picked it up lol

None of that was a proper salute to Nicky’s accomplishment, fans. And if you’re going to throw food, at least have chuck a meatball. I’m guessing– and tell me if I’m wrong– that alcohol may have been a factor. It was the third period on a Saturday night after all.
