No high-minded introduction today. Just listen to Barry Trotz: “If you keep doing the right things over and over, I think the hockey gods recognize that, and they allow you to win hockey games. It all evens out.”

Storylines
- Great insight into the little problems at the tactical level from Barry Trotz after morning skate. Good perspective too.
- Alex Ovechkin, that selfish Russian, will let the team burn tonight just so long as he gets his franchise point-scoring record.
- Appointment reading: Japers’ Rink Ups and Downs.
- The art of stick-on-puck with Matt Niskanen.
- Either Eric Fehr or Jay Beagle will sit tonight [UPDATE: Fehr.]. Fehr outshot the Coyotes 10 to 5 on Sunday. Beagle got outshot 1 to 9.
- What did the Caps talk about after Sunday’s game? “We’ll keep that to ourselves,” says Orpik.
- Brooks Laich is on the mend thanks to mind vitamins. Dear god what are mind vitamins.
- We’re still trying to figure out what Ted Leonsis meant by this.
What You’re Missing on TV Tonight
I guess November sweeps is still a week away, because there’s no new episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD tonight. So I just wanna use this space to say that show is actually really good now. The cloying characters are now kinda heartrending. The smug characters are a mess. Everyone’s got these complicated relationships with each other, and the action scenes– which feature mostly women– are the best on television. Check this out:
