Shane Gersich, a Capitals fifth-round pick, started his USHL career with a goal in an Omaha Lancers’ loss to Sioux City Musketeers in overtime in the first game of the regular season.
Gersich’s goal is at 1:47.
Gersich’s goal came in the middle of the second period. The speedy Minnesotan got around Sioux City defenseman Matt Berkovitz and beat goalie Collin Olson short side, tying the game at two. Soon, the Lancers took the lead. With less than a minute to go, the Musketeers got back even and scored a shorthanded goal late in overtime.
Another Caps prospect playing for the Lancers, 2014 sixth-round pick Steven Spinner, didn’t register any points, but tied for most shots on goal with five.
