Ex-Caps defenseman Milan Jurcina has signed a tryout agreement with Dinamo Riga of the KHL, according to the club’s official site. The announcement states that Jurcina is on a tryout “for now,” so it’d come as no surprise if he soon signed a full contract.
The 31-year-old Jurcina played 430 regular season with Boston, Washington, Columbus, and the NY Islanders. In 2012 he returned to Europe after eight years of junior and pro hockey in North America. He has since played in Czech Republic, Finland, and Switzerland. Now Latvia is his likely next stop.
Last season, Jurcina represented Slovakia in Sochi, his second Olympics. He has also played at four World Championships.
According to the KHL legal regulations, tryout contracts may not expire later than three days before the regular season starts, which mean Jurcina’s agreement can not run until later than August 30th.
