Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward scored two goals at the World Championship on Saturday as Team Canada beat Slovakia, 4-1, marking the first and second international goals of his career.
Late in the second period, with the score 1-0 Slovakia, Ward deflected a blast by Jason Garrison past Slovakia’s Jan Laco.
Canada scored two more goals before Ward sealed the final with a late goal after Alex Burrows won a board battle.

With the win, Canada has a 1-0-1 record. They currently hold third place in Group A (next time, don’t lose to France!) and will play the Czech Republic on Monday.
