There was once a straight-faced Matt Cooke for Lady Byng campaign, but he’s like the Lich from Adventure Time. You know he’s gonna do something awful; you just don’t know when.
Cut to: Monday might in Minnesota. Cookie went knee-on-knee with Colorado’s Tyson Barrie, injuring him. It was awful, the quintessence of Cooke.
Cooke was on the forecheck, with Barrie the last man back at the blue line. The puck was gone before Cooke stuck out his left leg, catching Barrie.

Barrie barrel-rolled and crashed into the boards. The injury was apparent immediately.

Barrie left the game.
Injury update: Tyson Barrie (lower body) will not return.

Cooke received two minutes for kneeing.
I’d expect the Department of Player Safety to chime in soon. Cooke has a long and storied career of being a malignant little goblin, particularly when it comes to wrecking guys’ knees. Ian documented like 83 of them a while back. Time to add one more to the list.
Go Avs.
Update: The Wild won in overtime. Tyson Barrie will be out for a month.
Tyson Barrie will miss 4-6 weeks with MCL injury
