The United States of America opened Olympic tournament play against Slovakia on Thursday morning. It was a beatdown of epic proportions. The US won 7-1, starting with a beauty of a goal from Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson, who is playing in his first Olympiad.
The goal came late in the first period Phil Kessel‘s drop pass (who I recently gave a bunch of praise to on our first ever podcast) was perfect.
Carlson also assisted on Dustin Brown’s second period goal.
On the day, Carlson had two shots on goal to match his two points. He got only 13:17 of ice time, second least among American defensemen.
