The Washington Capitals gave up three goals in the first 12 minutes of their game tonight against the Calgary Flames on Hockey Night In Canada. Braden Holtby was sensational in net. The defense was to blame on every Flames goal. Caps head coach Adam Oates did not care about this fact, however, and decided to pull Holtby after Steve Oleksy accidentally deflected a Calgary shot into his own net. We can only assume it was to jumpstart his team.
As Holtby skated off the ice, he hurled obscenities towards the bench (or, possibly, Oates). He was not a happy.
Holtby bummed.
Oates makes decision to pull Holtby.
Oates on goaltending change: I'm glad he's mad… He's a competitor. Braden is our man, not going to change.
