We all know Alex Ovechkin loves to have fun, and now we have this fantastic new anecdote — thanks to Alex Ovetjkin — from former Caps netminder Semyon Varlamov who spoke to Artem Lisovsky of KP.RU.

Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin is a famous prankster. On April Fools’ day he almost got the entire team!

“On April Fools’ Day Ovechkin came up to me and said, ‘It’s urgent, call General Manager George McPhee. He seems very unhappy and angry.’ I got scared and thought it was something really serious because it was never before like this. I called George and asked him what happened. And he answered, ‘Listen, what the hell? [The entire team’s] called me and asked what has happened. My phone is off the hook!’ It turned out that Ovechkin pranked us all. We laughed for a long time afterwards. But our head coach got it the worst. Ovechkin asked him to call the Owner of the team, billionaire Ted Leonsis. When this happens, it means you are either getting fired, or you are in a serious trouble. Our coach called, but got Leonsis’s answering machine. Only then Ovechkin explained that it was a joke. The coach was swearing like a sailor!”

As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Ovi has played master prankster.

    Or this!

    And oh yeah, this!

Is there anything else we missed?
